Prohibition of the 1920s
Prohibitaion started January 16th, 1920 when the 18th ammendmant officialy cmae into effect prohibiting, the export, the import, sales, consumption, and posession of any form of alcoholic beverage in the United States. This was enforces as an attempt to legistate mortality.
Although it was illegal to sell alcohol, a variety of alohol was available at places called "Speak easies", which were underground drinking establishments. Many people during the 20s also kept private bars in their homes to serve guests. Few ways of getting alcohol illegally was across canadian borders and outwside of teritorial waters
Even though alcohol was illegal, it was still avaialable for a few reasons such as, medicinal reasons, and religious ceremonies.
When this ammendmant passed it was an attempt to increase crime, but because of pohibition it actually increased crime due to the want of alcohol. It caused more crime and mobsters.
The prohibition law was eventually lifted, but not during the 1920s
